Uncovering Your Motivation
One of the biggest obstacles we face on our health and fitness journey is motivation. It’s constantly shifting: some days you’ll feel unstoppable, like you’re on top of the world, and other days you’ll feel completely drained and question why you ever set such ambitious goals in the first place. When those low moments hit, it’s crucial to remember two things: 1) it’s a temporary feeling, and 2) you need to ground yourself in a deeper why – a reason that can anchor you when motivation fails.
Instead of sharing my own experiences to motivate you, I want to empower you to find your own drive. Below are a series of prompts to help you uncover your personal why for getting healthy and fit. Understanding your own reasons will make it easier to stay committed, energized, and inspired as you move through your journey.
❤️ What Does a Healthy, Fit Version of You Look Like?
Write a detailed description of your ideal fit and healthy self. How do you feel? What do you look like? What new activities are you able to do? Visualizing your best self can provide clarity on your "why."
❤️ What is Your Biggest Health Goal Right Now?
Identify your top health or fitness goal. Is it to feel stronger, have more energy, or maybe lose weight? Write about why this goal matters to you and what achieving it will mean for your life.
❤️ What Are You Passionate About That Fitness Will Enable You to Do?
Reflect on activities, hobbies, or dreams that you're passionate about. How will fitness help you achieve or fully enjoy them? Maybe you want to travel more, hike to a mountain, or play with your kids without feeling winded.
❤️ How Does Your Health Impact the People You Care About?
Consider how your health affects your family, friends, or community. Write about how taking care of yourself will help you be a better partner, parent, friend, or role model.
❤️ What Kind of Legacy Do You Want to Leave Behind?
Reflect on the long-term impact your health can have. Do you want to live a long, vibrant life and be an example of healthy aging? Write about the legacy of health and vitality you hope to leave for future generations.
Once you’ve had some time to reflect on the above, I’d love to hear your thoughts. Share them in the comments below to get the conversation going!
